Fire crews were dispatched to a Strawberry Hill Road home shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, where there was a report of a fire that spread from the chimney to the surrounding walls and an attic space, Fire Marshal Fred Baker said.

“The fire appears to have been caused by a breach in the chimney system, allowing hot embers to escape and ignite the structural members,” he said.

The homeowners were able to escape the home at the time the blaze broke out, and no injuries were reported. They reportedly plan to stay at a neighbor’s home temporarily.

A second alarm was sounded bringing crews from fire departments in Wilton, Norwalk, Stamford and Pound Ridge. The flames were quickly knocked down in approximately 15 minutes, though firefighters remained at the home to extinguish hotspots.

The house sustained substantial water, smoke and fire damage and is currently uninhabitable, officials noted.

Baker said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
